New Friendships!

Back in February we exhibited at the Surface Design Show in London where we met Paul Quinn, the Managing Director of Armatile in Northern Ireland. Armatile are the leading retailer, distributor, manufacturer and supplier of architectural and interior design tiles in Ireland. Having won numerous awards they have built a great reputation.

Since February we have discussed exciting projects which are now under way.  Recently Armatile installed the first digitally printed mural in their Armagh head office showroom, the first of three of their showrooms. The image is of a Greek head and the printed textured background sits really well with the stone tiles.

We are currently working on the final stages of a very exciting floor tile project for a boutique hotel bathroom, in the home town of one particularly famous golfer who has also become the inspiration behind the design! Hopefully very soon we will be able to tell you all about it!

We look forward to working on many more projects in future and building a great relationship with Armatile.

Dive in!

Summer is here! If you are planning to build a new swimming pool or update your existing pool, why not tile it with a striking image or design. Imagine swimming with dolphins every day or exploring a coral reef in your back garden.

A digitally printed image onto ceramic tiles will not fade in the sunlight or be affected by the chemicals in the pool. The tiles are fired at a very high temperature so they fully vitrified. This makes the tiles very strong and gives them protection against frost, abrasion and resistance to industrial chemicals such as chlorine.

Discuss your ideas with us and we can print your own image or find one that is suitable for you. There are so many themes you could choose from; tropical paradise, under-the-sea, an aerial view over your favourite city. We can then even superimpose it into your existing pool so you can visualise the final design before taking the plunge!

A Wall of 788 Plates!

Our sister company, Digital Ceramics, worked with Dr Katie Bunnell, Associate Professor of Design, of Falmouth University’s Digital Research Cluster ‘Autonomatic,’ and Project Artist Chris Tipping on the project, ‘1479 plates’ & ‘Autonomatic,’ a wall of bone china plates, in celebration of the Combe Down Stone Mines Stabilisation Project.

The collaborative project features a digitally printed commemorative map of the Combe Down Mine in Bath, made up of 788 plates, completed this mural measured 9 x 5 metres. It is visually striking and was great fun to be involved in. What a great idea to create a mural of plates instead of the usual ceramic tiles!  Since the exhibition at the Octagon in Bath, the  mural now forms a large scale permanent installation in Combe Down village.  The 691 households affected by the stabilisation works were also each gifted a ceramic plate, a lovely touch!

We were delighted to hear recently that Autonomatic have been awarded the Judges’ Spotlight Award at the Inaugural Craft Skills Awards 2013. Autonomatic, were awarded for their contribution to integrating digital skills & techniques into Craft practice.

Chris Tipping and Katie Bunnell of Autonomatic have been featured on the Craft Council’s website and best of all the ‘1479 plates’ & ‘Autonomatic,’ project was pictured! Take a look!
