Traditionally, ceramic printing was produced through a screen-printing process. This process is more suited to a large volume of pattern due to the expensive setup costs. During the age of digital technology back in the late 1990’s, Michael Zimmer, our shareholder, invented Ceramic Toner Technology.
In 2001, Digital Ceramics was set up to sell the machinery, toners and consumables to the ceramic manufacturing industry all over the world.
In 2011, we were asked by a leading tile manufacturer, to produce a large scale art project for the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, which had over 16,000 30cm individual porcelain tiles, produced with a different image to create a large scale mural. After the success, we set up The Surface Design Studio to offer a custom printing service to artists, interior designers and architects.
Our service is completely customisable, from the choice of the base tile, whether it’s a 3D shape to a large format Porcelain Thin.
We offer both wall tiles and floor tiles, all of which are kiln fired between 800c to 1250c for a permanent solution.
The Surface Design Studio pushes the boundaries of what is deemed possible. Our innovative approach is underpinned by years of experience delivering world class architectural projects and bolstered by the patented print technology we have developed and advanced.
